L'Arche Australia National Conference - 2013
At the end of May delegates from L'Arche Communities around Australia gathered in Mulgoa, NSW for a weekend of Remembering, Celebrating and Dreaming. Chris and Alison King represented Friends of L'Arche, Perth participating in a full weekend of activities that celebrated the richness of life that has evolved in Australian communities since L'Arche began here forty years ago.
In typical L'Arche fashion core members were at the heart of the weekend's activities, that were planned by a Listening and Speaking Group made up of core members from each Community who had been meeting for months leading up to the event. Flags were made for each Community and a giant 'ark' was fashioned out of scarves as a centrepiece and focus for the weekend's activities. Musician and former National Leader, John Coleman led the singing with assistance from Claire Lawler and any number of core members who felt they had a musical contribution to make.
The logistics of getting 75+ delegates, most of whom have significant disabilities, from around the country to Mulgoa and back was managed without a hitch by Community Leaders and their young Assistants and the whole weekend ran like clockwork thanks to the organisational skills of National Leader David Treanor.
