L'Arche's 50th Celebrations

Throughout 2014 communities all over the world are celebrating L’Arche’s golden jubilee. Here in Perth we organised a public address, given by Eileen Glass AM, the Vice International Leader of L’Arche, held at the University of Notre Dame, on Friday 2 May. It was a fitting venue in Fremantle since it was there, at the Edmund Rice Centre, that we first encountered Eileen when she led our first L'Arche Retreat in 2007.

The event was well attended and Eileen's talk inspirational. Listen to it here:

At the conclusion of the talk questions were taken from the audience; these and Eileen's answers follow:

Eileen co-founded L’Arche Australia in 1977 and was its national leader from 1981-1985.  She has been a key figure in L’Arche for more than thirty years, holding numerous leadership positions in Australia and internationally.  Between 1992-2001, she was L’Arche Coordinator for Asia and the West Pacific.  In her most recent role as Vice International Leader she is providing leadership to the life of L’Arche worldwide. Eileen is a convincing speaker with a remarkable ability to communicate the message of L’Arche as an expression of the Christian faith.

On Saturday 3 May our community celebrated with an afternoon tea and dancing, led by Sr Shelley Barlow. It culminated in the cutting of a cake and the release of balloons.
